Barbell Shrugs
The Barbell Shrug targets the upper traps by elevating the shoulders with the bar held in front of the body. It helps build upper-back and neck thickness and supports scapular stability for heavier pulling. When performed with control—lifting straight up and down rather than rolling—shrugs are a simple, effective accessory for back and posture-focused training.
Olympic barbell
- Builds upper trapezius strength and upper-back thickness.
- Improves scapular support for rows, deadlifts, and carries.
- Adds stability around the shoulder girdle when paired with full back work.
- Prepares you for Trap Bar Shrugs.
- Mantenha o tronco ereto
Avoid if you have significant neck pain, cervical compression symptoms, or a recent disc issue without clearance. Use moderate loads and controlled reps. Stop if you feel radiating pain, numbness, or tingling into the arms. If shoulder discomfort appears, limit the range and keep a neutral head position—don’t push the neck forward while shrugging.
- Rolling the shoulders instead of lifting straight up and down.
- Going too heavy and losing range and control.
- Leaning the torso to compensate for the load.
