Instructions
  1. Place your hands on the floor shoulder-width apart, feet slightly apart, and keep your body forming a straight line from head to heels.
  2. Then, bend your elbows bringing your chest towards the ground.
  3. Lower yourself until your elbows form an angle of approximately 90° and push the ground with force and speed, explosively.
  4. Generate enough momentum for your hands to leave the ground, and while in the air, quickly clap your hands.
  5. Return the hands to the ground with control and in a synchronized manner, cushion the impact with semi-flexed arms, and repeat.
Tips
  • Keep the torso upright at all times.
  • Keep your abdomen contracted.
  • Focus on the quality of movement and explosiveness.
Restrictions

This is an advanced exercise and is not recommended for beginners or anyone with wrist, elbow, or shoulder pain. Individuals with a history of upper body joint injuries should avoid it. Ensure you have a strong foundation in regular push-ups before attempting clap push-ups to prevent injury.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
  • Not descending low enough in the eccentric phase, missing the plyometric benefit.
  • Failing to generate enough force to lift the body and clap, leading to a missed landing.
  • Not cushioning the landing, placing excessive stress on wrists and elbows.
